South Korean startup ULikeKorea said on July 11 that it has collected over 500 million biometric data points, allowing it to detect some 40 types of cattle disease in real time.

Its biocapsule, dubbed “LiveCare,” measures an animal’s core body temperature and activity over 300 times a day once it is swallowed, according to the company. The medical device is equipped with a GPS function and internet-of-things technology.

If combined with the biometric data set, the device can detect diseases in dairy and breeding cattle, including foot-and-mouth disease and mastitis, ULikeKorea said.

“In the future, an animal disease (prevention) platform can be created to prevent cattle losses and predict infectious diseases that can impact the cattle market on a national level,” ULikeKorea CEO Kim Hee-jin said in a statement.

Cattle growers can facilitate their operations as LiveCare can monitor animals’ health, trace their movements over 24 hours and store health histories, Kim added.

The startup is currently looking to expand overseas into markets like the US, Brazil, Australia and Japan.
