[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics’ upcoming V30 that will be unveiled at the IFA trade show later this month is expected to ditch a secondary display screen, a signature feature of the bigger-screen flagship smartphone, industry sources said on Aug. 3.

“The V30 is ditching the secondary screen to secure maximum space for the full-vision display,” a source said on condition of anonymity. “The extra screen is likely to be replaced with a set of soft keys that act as a shortcut for apps and contacts.”

Sources said the V30, following last year’s V20, will make the most drastic changes in the display panel, becoming the first LG phone to have an OLED screen.

The V30 with a 6-inch display will feature the upper and lower bezels 20 percent and 50 percent slimmer, respectively, compared to the V20. An LG logo that is usually located on the bottom of the device is likely to be removed to allow more space.

An LG official also hinted at more drastic curvature of the side edges to offer more immersive viewing and better grip.

The display screen is also expected to be protected by the shatter-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and fitted with a solution that addresses the burn-in problem, a type of discoloration on some parts of the screen.

Other anticipated features include: industry-highest IP68 water- and dust-resistance; Bang & Olufsen audio system; and Google’s Daydream virtual reality platform.

The rear-facing camera is rumored to feature an f/1.6 aperture, the lowest aperture level for a smartphone in the market. The lower the aperture number, the more light is let in for brighter pictures.
