[THE INVESTOR] Netlist, a US-based modular memory subsystem producer, is likely to sue SK hynix for infringing its patents for next-generation memory storage systems such as the non-volatile DIMM and High Bandwith Memory, according to Chosun Biz on May 30.

According to the report, Netlist has already warned SK hynix of such violations. The US company said it will go ahead if the warnings are not heeded.

HDM, which can be used for big data and artificial intelligence, is a memory system that transfers data up to seven times faster than dynamic random-access memory.

NVDIMM is a system used for data servers.

SK hynix refused to comment on the matter. “We cannot say anything related to the lawsuit,” a company spokesman told the local press.

This is not the first time Netlist has accused SK hynix for violating its patents. A similar suit was filed in September 2016 for infringing six patent rights related to its Registered Dual In-line Memory Module and Load Reduced Dual In-line Memory Module.

Netlist was founded in 2000 by Chun K. Hong, a former LG employee. It signed a license contract with Samsung Electronics in 2015.
