Samsung Electronics announced Tuesday that it has appointed mobile business chief Roh Tae-moon as the acting head of its Device eXperience or DX division, which oversees the company's electronics and consumer device businesses. The position had been vacant following the passing of Vice Chairman and co-CEO Han Jong-hee in late March.
In addition to his current role leading the Mobile eXperience or MX division, Roh will also assume the position of chairman of the Quality Innovation Committee, a role previously held by Han.
“By assigning the acting head role to the MX division leader, we aim to stabilize the organization as quickly as possible,” a Samsung Electronics official said.
Roh is widely recognized as a key figure behind the success of the Galaxy smartphone series, having played a pivotal role in the brand’s rise to global prominence.
Born in 1968, Roh holds a degree in electronic engineering from Yonsei University and a master’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology.
He joined Samsung in 1997 as part of the wireless business division and has since held various leadership roles, including head of innovative product development, head of product strategy, and head of development.
Since 2020, Roh has led the MX division, and since 2022, he has also served as the head of the Corporate Design Center. He was recently reappointed as an internal director at the company’s shareholder meeting on March 19.
Meanwhile, Choi Won-joon, head of the R&D office and global operations team for the MX division, will take on additional responsibilities as chief operating officer of the division.
In addition, the role of head of the digital appliances business, previously held by the late vice chairman, will be assumed by Kim Cheol-gi, executive vice president and head of the strategic marketing office of the MX division.
“With the latest leadership reshuffle, Samsung Electronics is committed to minimizing disruptions within the DX division while strengthening our global competitiveness and ensuring a seamless transition for future growth,” the official added.
