LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan has openly expressed his desire to collaborate with Microsoft in quantum processing, following the release of Microsoft’s new quantum processor, Majorana 1, on Thursday.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced the breakthrough on LinkedIn, emphasizing that the new processor could enable the development of next-generation quantum computers within years, rather than decades, as previously predicted.
In response, Cho congratulated Microsoft on the achievement and suggested a potential collaboration between the two companies.
“Congratulations on this remarkable breakthrough! I have even greater expectations for the future of next-generation computing innovation and look forward to exploring potential collaboration opportunities,” Cho commented on Nadella’s post.
On Wednesday, Microsoft unveiled the world’s first quantum chip powered by its new Topological Core architecture, utilizing the first-ever topoconductor. The company described this as a "breakthrough material" capable of observing and controlling Majorana particles, which are essential for creating more reliable and scalable qubits—the fundamental building blocks of quantum computers.
In recent months, LG Electronics and Microsoft have been strengthening their partnership. During CES 2025 in January, the two companies announced a strategic partnership in artificial intelligence, expanding collaboration in areas such as AI-powered smart homes, mobility solutions, and commercial applications.
Following LG’s CES 2025 showcase, Cho shared highlights of LG’s AI-driven innovations on LinkedIn, including the strategic partnership with Microsoft. In response, Nadella left a comment expressing appreciation.
“This is so exciting to see, William Cho (his English name), and thank you for the partnership. Looking forward to how we shape the future of AI-powered spaces together,” the Microsoft CEO wrote.
