Hyundai Mobis, a leading Korean car parts manufacturer affiliated with Hyundai Motor Group, unveiled the world’s first holographic windshield display at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the US, marking a futuristic shift in passenger car cockpit design.

According to Hyundai Mobis on Thursday, the new windshield, developed in collaboration with German optics giant Zeiss, displays high-definition images of a wide range of information, including speed, navigation maps and infotainment content such as videos and music playlists, without obstructing the driver's view.

The technology is expected to be a solution for keeping drivers' heads up, reducing risks associated with checking cockpit devices or other gadgets while driving, and even potentially eliminating the need for cockpit devices altogether.

The display can be placed anywhere on the windshield — from the edges to the entire surface, with light projected onto a 100-micronanometers-thin film called the “Holographic Optical Element,” attached on the front glass of vehicles.

It is the first time a technology enabling the entire front window of a car to function as a display board has been unveiled, while multiple carmakers have introduced windshield displays as part of the industry's trend focused on enhancing driver experiences.

Hyundai Mobis said it plans to start mass production of the display from 2027.

“Hyundai Mobis will strengthen its presence in the global market with its technological competitiveness, leading the market with high-value-added products,” said Hyundai Mobis CEO Lee Gyu-suk. “We will continue to introduce diverse advanced technologies to the market ahead of others.”
