Samsung Electronics on Tuesday announced it will unveil new Galaxy smartphones at this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California on Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. (local time).

While the tech giant has not disclosed which products to be revealed, the Galaxy S25 series, including a new slim model, is expected to debut at the event. Upgraded AI features are expected to be showcased as well.

“The next evolution of Galaxy AI is coming and it’s going to change the way you interact with the world every day," Samsung said in a press release with the invitation. "The new Galaxy S series is about to set the bar once again for mobile AI experiences now and into the future."

A video invitation sent to major global media outlets and partners gave some clues to the upcoming products. The 15-second teaser showed an image of the round corners of four smartphones meeting, hinting at an expansion of the traditional lineup –- consisting of the standard, Plus and Ultra editions –- with the addition of a Slim model. It also suggested that the phones will have rounded edges, moving away from the previously squared-off corners.

Details about the Slim model remain under wraps, but it is expected to be the thinnest in the Galaxy S series. Industry sources say the Slim model could be in the mid-6-millimeter range in thickness, compared to 7.6 mm for Galaxy S24 and 8 mm for the iPhone 16 -- Samsung and Apple's latest models, respectively. The Slim model will likely launch in the second quarter, with an estimated production of around 3 million units.

Additionally, the clip showcased an AI voice recognition, with a voice asking “Hey, when is the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked?” The date pops up on screen, and the voice follows up with, “Can you put it on my calendar?” The clip ends with the Galaxy AI logo, hinting at an upgraded AI assistant

The event, under the theme of “The Next Big Leap in Mobile AI Experiences,” will be livestreamed via YouTube and Samsung’s website.
