LG Electronics has been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World for the 13th consecutive year, the company announced Tuesday.
Compiled annually by S&P Global, the DJSI evaluates companies on their economic performance and environmental, social and governance practices. Only the top 10 percent of 2,500 global companies are listed on the index, which serves as a benchmark for corporate sustainability.
The Korean tech giant achieved the highest score of any company in the “Leisure Equipment & Products and Consumer Electronics” category, making the list for the 13th year -- the longest streak for a South Korean firm. It also secured spots on the DJSI Asia Pacific for the 15th year and the DJSI Korea for the 16th year.
The company earned high marks across various ESG areas, including environmental policy, human rights, human resources, customer relations, supply chains and product responsibility.
Under its ESG vision “Better Life for All,” LG is pursuing a set of eco-friendly “3C” initiatives -- carbon neutrality, circularity and clean technology -- and “3D” strategies for people -- design for all, decent workplace and diversity and inclusion.
By 2030, LG aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its manufacturing processes by 54.6 percent compared to 2017 levels, using energy-saving technologies, renewable energy and process improvements.
Notably, LG was the first company in the home appliance industry to obtain UN carbon credits in 2015.
In addition, LG observes international human rights and labor standards and is enhancing its human rights management processes to respond to strengthening global ESG-related legislation, it said.
LG has consistently performed well in other ESG evaluations, earning an “A” rating from the Korea Corporate Governance Service for the fourth straight year and from Morgan Stanley Capital International for the fifth consecutive year.
