LG Electronics said on May 16 it has developed an artificial intelligence chip applicable in various household appliances to offer customized services for users.

The tech giant said its AI chip is equipped with neural engine processing cores customized to run deep learning algorithms.

LG said the AI chip is designed to recognize a user’s face and voice as well as location and ambient environment to provide tailored services for customers.

The on-device AI chip is also capable of operating when it is not connected to the cloud and has a security engine to protect personal information and to fend off cyberattacks.

LG said a foreign foundry maker will manufacturer its AI chip, which will be applied in its robot cleaners, washers, air conditioners and refrigerators, without elaborating on details.
