South Korea’s online media production startup sellev. is poised for a fresh start by naming a new chief executive, a year after its troubled ex-chief’s fall from grace over an alleged employee abuse controversy.

sellev. has named Park Min-kyun as its new CEO, an official at the startup told The Investor on April 9.

Park was formerly the chief marketing officer of media content maker GlanceTV. Since 2001, he has worked at several media production firms including giants such as Kakao and CJ ENM.

“(Park) has sought a lifelong career in the media industry in Korea,” a source familiar with the matter told The Investor.

sellev. was founded in 2016 as an in-house project of Locus, a video production firm and parent company of Korean film production and distribution firm Sidus. Its flagship product -- interview series of inspiring figures -- was frequently viral on social networks like Facebook and YouTube.

But the success turned sour as the startup's founder and then-CEO Lim Sang-hoon stepped down in April 2018 over allegations of repeatedly bullying and abusing staff, following a revelation by a former employee on social media.

Since then, sellev. has not made a public announcement on the nomination of a new chief to take the place of Lim.
