Samsung Electronics said on April 4 that it is mass producing 5G solutions for the latest premium mobile devices as the company seeks to expand its presence in the next-generation wireless business.

The South Korean electronics giant introduced three essential parts for 5G smartphones, just a day before launching its Galaxy S10 5G model in the domestic market.

LG Electronics also plans to launch its first 5G smartphone, V50 ThinQ, on April 19.

The 5G multi-mode chipsets include the previously introduced Exynos Modem 5100 as well as a new single-chip radio frequency transceiver, the Exynos RF 5500. The Exynos SM 5800 is a supply modulator solution that supports 5G New Radio sub-6 gigahertz spectrum and legacy radio access technologies.

“Our multi-mode solutions will together enable powerful yet energy-efficient 5G performance along with the network versatility that allows users to stay connected wherever they are,” Kang In-yup, president of System LSI Business at Samsung Electronics, said in a release.

Exynos Modem 5100 is Samsung’s first 5G modem solution that completed preparations for commercialization in August 2018 with an over-the-air 5G-NR data call test.

The modem supports virtually all networks from 5G’s sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrums to 2G, 3G and 4G LTE networks in a single chip, the firm said.
