Accommodation booking platform Yanolja said on March 22 that it will hire more than 400 skilled people this year, including 200 for research and development projects.

The new employment plan is aimed at attracting global talents to increase its presence in the accommodation and leisure sectors.

The Seoul-headquartered firm hired 400 new employees and executives last year, surpassing its initial target of 300 with its operations, ranging from motel booking to leisure activity reservation, growing at an exponential pace. Of the new employees hired last year, some 30 percent came from South Korean conglomerates, Yanolja said.

“The latest hiring plan is aimed at expediting the growth of global operations, creating quality jobs in the community, as well as laying the groundwork for sustainable growth,” said Kim Woo-ri, head of Yanolja’s HR division.

The company has adopted a flexible working hour system which allows employees to decide their own schedule. It also offers employees a range of benefits, including cash-like Yanolja points that can be used on the company’s app, education assistance and health screening.

The Korean accommodation firm, which started as a motel booking company in early 2000s, has been growing fast to become a platform where users can not only book budget hotel rooms, but also buy tickets at discounted prices for cultural events.

Global investors are paying keen attention to the firm, which became the seventh unicorn startup in Korea recently by receiving 20 billion won ($17.7 million) funds from GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund. Its valuation reaches 1.1 trillion won.

Global hotel booking platform Agoda is rumored to be in talks with Yanolja for possible investment, according to recent news reports.
