[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong met Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in Seoul on Nov. 7, the company said, discussing potential business ties in artificial intelligence and other emerging industries.

The Korean tech giant said Lee held a meeting with Nadella earlier in the day. The two business leaders mainly discussed strategies related to AI, along with ways to bolster ties between Samsung and Microsoft, industry sources said.

They discussed potential cooperation on cloud computing, data centers, 5G network and software industries as well, the sources added. Nadella, who took office in 2014, has been focusing on AI and cloud computing.

As cloud computing services call for high-end solid-state drives, industry watchers said Samsung Electronics is likely to expand shipments of its products to Microsoft‘s cloud servers.

Others presumed that Samsung’s future smart devices will come with Microsoft’s cloud services.

Lee has met Nadella several times since 2014.

It marked the first time for Lee to hold a meeting with a global business leader in Korea since being released from prison in February.
