[THE INVESTOR] LG Electronics CEO Cho Seog-jin, and Park il-pyeong, CTO of the firm, will deliver opening keynote speeches at the IFA electronics trade fair to be held from Aug 31 to Sept. 5 in Berlin, according to the Korean tech giant on June 20.

It will be the first time for top LG executives to take the stage at the trade show to give opening remarks.

Under the theme of “Think Wise. Be Free: Living Freer with AI,” Cho’s speech will be focused on LG’s open strategies to nurture innovation in emerging segments, such as artificial intelligence, connected technology, and autonomous driving.

“LG will introduce how the company utilizes AI in its businesses, and how the technology benefits its customers,” the LG CEO said.

Following the keynote speech of the CEO, the LG CTO will step up to the stage to talk about the company’s open AI platform ThinkQ, which has been deployed for TVs and smartphones.

The Korean tech firm has been trying to beef up its AI capacity, by acquiring and investing in startups and setting up global research labs.

Late last month, the company announced a plan to invest 53.6 billion won (US$48.40 million) to purchase 1.95 million common stocks of Korean industrial robot maker Robostar in July when the robot company issues new shares, and acquire additional stake next year.

The firm invested some 1 billion won in AI startup Acryl, which specializes in developing emotion recognition solutions, earlier this month, and bought a 10 percent stake in robot solutions developer Robotis.
