Forbes names Samsung 7th-most valuable firm

[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics on May 24 ranked in the seventh spot in the World’s Most Valuable Brands 2018 research released by US business magazine Forbes, rising three notches from a year earlier.

According to the annual study carried out by Forbes, the Korean tech giant posted a brand value of US$47.6 billion, rising 25 percent on-year from last year’s US$38.2 billion, when it ranked in the 10th spot.

Samsung’s bigger rival Apple continued to stand as the biggest player, with the brand-value estimate of US$182.8 billion, up 7.5 percent from a year earlier, the chart showed.

Top IT giant Google also followed with a value of US$132.1 billion, trailed by Microsoft and Facebook with US$104.9 billion and US$94.8 billion, respectively.

Japan’s Toyota Motor was the only other Asian company to be included in the top 10 list with a value of US$44.7 billion, Forbes data showed.

Korea’s Hyundai Motor, meanwhile, saw its ranking drop by seven from last year to stand in the 75th spot with a value of US$8.7 billion.
