[THE INVESTOR] Five carmakers and two importers of two-wheelers will voluntarily recall nearly 290,000 vehicles to fix faulty parts, the government here said on May 24.

It is the latest in a series of recalls by carmakers and importers to ensure their vehicles meet safety rules.

The companies taking steps to ensure the safety of cars on the road are Kia Motors, Renault Samsung Motors, Mercedes-Benz Korea, Volvo Korea, Porsche Korea, and two importers of two-wheelers, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement.

The companies plan to recall 30 different models totaling 287,955 vehicles. The models include Kia’s Carnival minivan Mercedes-Benz‘s GLC 220d 4MATIC coupe and Volvo’s XC90 sport-utility vehicle, the ministry said.

The problems include the Carnival’s sliding door system and the CLA 250 4MATIC‘s malfunctioning air bags and a leakage of coolant in the Volvo XC90, the statement said.

Vehicle owners can visit designated repair and service centers to have the parts replaced free of charge, it said.
