[THE INVESTOR] Kumho Tire said on March 20 it has expanded its tire supplies to BMW, which it believes will help promote global demand for its products.

Kumho Tire began to supply Crugen HP91 high-performance original equipment tires to BMW’s X3 sport utility vehicle being produced in the United States in June last year, the company said in a statement.

OE tires refer to the tires a carmaker chooses to include on its vehicles when they are new. Tire companies don’t earn much money for supplying OE tires, but they drive up the brand image of their products among consumers.

The tire maker has provided OE tires to such carmakers as BMW, Renault, Chrysler, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.

It is the first time that Kumho will supply tires to BMW‘s SUV models as the company in the past provided OE products to the German carmaker’s sedans, a company spokesman said.
