[THE INVESTOR] Singapore-based movie production firm Vividthree has acquired rights to remake Korean zombie thriller “Train to Busan” into a virtual reality film, according to Korean film distributor Next Entertainment World on March 14.

The film was one of Korea's biggest box-office earners in 2016, attracting more than 11 million moviegoers. Worldwide, it was distributed in 160 countries and collected US$140 million in ticket sales.

The VR version of the movie will be released through a global tour to nations including Singapore and Malaysia where the movie topped box-office charts.

“The VR version will allow fans to be immersed in the story and relate better to the characters,” Charles Yeo, CEO of the Singapore-based content maker, said in a press release.

The collaboration, backed by the Singapore government's efforts to foster the VR industry as part of its growth engine, will create synergies, according to the Korean film distributor.

“The collaborative project will be an exemplary case to show that well-made films can create a range of added values,” said Kim Jae-min, head of Content Panda, a Korean company in charge of global sales of the movie.
