LG Innotek aims to become UV LED market leader
[THE INVESTOR] LG Innotek, an electronics part manufacturer under LG Group, said on March 7 that it aims to become a global leader in the UV LED sector this year.
According to the industry tracker LEDinside, Japan’s Nichia was the biggest player in the sterilization UV LED market in 2016, whereas LG Innotek stood at the fourth place. Market watchers, however, said LG is presumed to have taken the second spot in 2017, casting a brighter prospects for this year.
“UV LED will make our lives more clean and safer, which will contribute in improving our quality of life,” Park Jong-seok, the head of LG Innotek said, claiming the company will play greater role in the market in the future.
UV LED is a high-tech light source that emits ultraviolet rays.
LG Innotek released 100mW-level product in November last year, which can be used for sterilization.
A higher number indicates stronger sterilization performances.
Products that are applied for air or water purifiers stand between 2 to 10mW. Experts say the 100mW-level products can even sterilize flowing water.
LG Innotek plans to showcase 150mW UV LED product in the third quarter, eventually seeking to release a 200mW version next year.
