[THE INVESTOR] German luxury carmakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW will voluntarily recall more than 3,000 vehicles to fix faulty parts, the Transport Ministry said on Feb. 14.

Mercedes-Benz’s recall -- set to begin later in the day -- affects 1,440 units of 21 different models produced between January and June 2017, including the GLS 350d 4MATIC, the ministry said.

The ministry said these vehicles have problems with left-rear door locks that do not function properly, making these cars vulnerable to theft.

Meanwhile, BMW will begin recalling 1,783 units of 30 models built between November 2008 and December 2013 as their air bag inflators, built by Japan‘s Takata Corp., could potentially hurt drivers when deployed.

BMW will also recall 79 motorcycles in three models, including the BMW C 650 Sport, for faulty software that may cause engine breakdowns, according to the ministry.
