[THE INVESTOR] GM’s luxury sub-brand Cadillac Representative Director Kim Young-sik announced on Jan. 19 that the carmaker aims to sell 2,500 cars in 2018 at a press conference in Seoul.

“We hope to grow further, so we have set our sales target at 2,500 units,” Kim said. Last year, Cadillac’s sales grew 82 percent by selling 2,008 cars, its highest figure ever in Korea. The company’s sales growth was largely due to CT6 model. CT6’s sales surged 145 percent on-year to 805 units in 2017.

To help meet its annual goal, Cadillac plans to expand its exhibition and service centers to reach out to its customers better. The company plans to open four additional exhibition centers and four to five service centers here this year.

“From my experience at Mercedes-Benz for seven years, I have the know-how on providing proper services for luxury brand customers.” Kim said.

Cadillac also plans to focus on improving the company’s brand image by opening an experience center called Cadillac House Seoul, which allows customers to try out the company’s vehicles and enjoy cultural experience simultaneously.

“We hosted Cadillac House Seoul for two months last year. This year, we plan to increase the duration starting from April or May,” the CEO said.

Regarding electric and autonomous vehicles, Kim said that the company will be applying the related technology it to its CT6 model, but does not have any plans to launch it in Korea for now.

GM Korea first introduced its sub-brand Cadillac here in 1996.
