[THE INVESTOR] Korean construction firm SK Engineering & Construction said on Jan. 11 that its consortium has won a US$640 million order to build an underground tunnel in Hong Kong.

Under the deal with Hong Kong’s Highways Department, the consortium will build a 390-meter-long tunnel section between Yau Cheung Road and Shanghai Street, according to SK E&C.

SK E&C said it owns 40 percent of the consortium, giving it US$256 million in the latest order. Build King Construction, a Hong Kong construction company, holds the remainder.

A SK E&C official said the construction work will likely commence next week and could take about 84 months to complete.

This is the first project the Korean builder has won in Hong Kong.
