Supercell to invest in Korean mobile game firms
[THE INVESTOR] Finnish mobile game giant Supercell said on Nov. 16 that it plans to invest in several emerging Korean companies in the sector.
“Supercell has high regard for Korean game developers, who are credited with developing world-class games and adopting the world’s first pay-to-play online game system,” said Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen.
The company did not reveal the size of its planned investments.
Paananen said Korean game developers would be guaranteed operational independence even after the investments go through. “Each team under Supercell works independently, and so will the Korean game companies participating in the investment program,” he said.
Supercell, the maker of globally popular mobile games Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, and Clash Royale, started investing in promising mobile game companies last year.
Among the emerging companies that Supercell has invested are Finnish game firms Frogmind and Shipyard and UK-based Space Ape.
