Emphasizing the importance of research and development, the minister also promised to expand support for research and development.

“The government will make changes to the current R&D procedures and have experts involved in all government-led R&D processes to ensure quality outcomes,” the minister added.

Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology President Shin Sung-Chul picked innovation, collaboration and speed as the three major elements in succeeding in the era of the fourth industrial revolution.

Agreeing on the importance of scientific development, participants also raised caution over side effects that could emerge.

Underlining social and economic benefits that new technologies will bring, Rep. Kim Kyung-jin from the People‘s Party added that the government should come up with measure to counter shortcomings of technological development.

The Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies’ President Kim Myung-ja said that the nation should take a comprehensive approach in dealing with the new era, as scientific and industrial development should be achieved in a way in which to reduce economic inequality but not to increase it.

Including government officials and representatives from the industry and academia, around 300 people attended the forum, the first event organized by The Herald Business on science technology.
