[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics on Sept. 10 that preorders for its new Galaxy Note 8 are setting new records in the US.

The Korean tech giant said preorders received since Aug. 24 hit the highest-ever figure for the bigger-screen Note phone in the US. The company did not disclose the exact number citing policy.

The Note 8 is the successor of the ill-fated Note 7 whose sales were suspended right after its release due to fire-prone faulty batteries.

The new phone comes with Samsung’s first-ever dual-lens camera and upgraded S Pen stylus. It has a 6.3-inch OLED display with curved edges.

In the US, the based 64 gigabyte model comes with a price tag of about US$929. The phone’s official launch is on Sept. 15.

In Korea, the phone received about 400,000 preorders on Sept. 8, the first day it started taking preorders.
