[THE INVESTOR] Samsung Electronics is seeking to diversify suppliers of fingerprint modules for its low-end smartphones, according to tech news outlet ETnews on Nov. 23.

The tech giant will reportedly receive the biometric modules for a budget smartphone, dubbed the Galaxy On, from two local fingerprint module makers. It is said to have recently held talks with the module makers for partnership.

The news outlet said one of the module makers has been trying to supply its products to Samsung for the past several years while the other, whose mainstay business is camera module, has recently jumped into the fingerprint module market.

The two new Samsung partners will likely supply a combined 2 million fingerprint modules.

The Korean smartphone maker released the first model of the Galaxy On, named the Galaxy Wide here, in 2015, mainly targeting the Chinese market.
