[THE INVESTOR] Tech giant Samsung Electronics and US chip company Qualcomm Technologies announced a renewed partnership on Nov. 17 to mass-produce the US firm’s latest model of its signature Snapdragon chip, which will likely power the Korean firm’s next flagship smartphone Galaxy S8.

Samsung said it would produce the Snapdragon 835 with its 10-nanometer FinFET process technology -- the most advanced chip manufacturing technology to date that boasts 30 percent more area efficiency and 27 percent higher performance than the 14nm chip. The latest chip tech also has 40 percent lower power consumption.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with Qualcomm in producing the Snapdragon 835 using our 10nm FinFET technology,” said Yoon Jong-shik, an executive vice president of Samsung Electronics’ foundry business team, in a statement.

“This collaboration is an important milestone for our foundry business as it signifies confidence in Samsung’s leading chip process technology,” he added.

The new Snapdragon chip is said to be fitted with a fast-charging battery technology that enables a smartphone users to use a mobile phone powered by the chip for five hours with just a single five-minute charge.
